Mike Hartuti (Meylan)

Mike Hartuti, or better known as Meylan, lost her hearing at the age of four months after suffering from a high fever. Now, she and her husband, Thomas, are crochet artisans at DCE

Crochet Artist

At that time, Alamwati offered Meylan the opportunity to become a crochet artist. Meylan then went along with her husband to meet Anita. Meylan herself had already honed her crochetin skills which she acquired while attending a special needs school in Wonosobo. Now, both of them are pursuing the same field. Meylan has become increasingly fond of crocheting. Her husband has also grown to love crocheting very much.

They vividly remember their first task, which was to crochet dolls of Jesus, Mother Mary, and Santa Claus. Day by day, their skills became even more refined. However, Thomas often felt annoyed because Anita repeatedly asked him to redo his work. There was even one time when Thomas locked himself in the room out of frustration.

At that moment, Meylan kept calling her husband to come out of the room so they could talk to Anita again. Anita observed how Meylan called her husband, as if she was learning a new trick.

"I saw Meylan calling Thomas to come out of the room. Because both of them are deaf, Meylan pressed the light switch outside the room repeatedly until Thomas finally came out," Anita shared while laughing out loud.
