Apolla S.

Apolla was born like most children, but at the age of four months, a high fever changed the course of her life. From that moment on, the world became silent for her as she lost her hearing. Although destiny felt harsh, God provided a beautiful way to bring balance. Behind the silence, He planted talent and resilience.

Crochet Artist

In a world without sound, Apolla found a new language through her fingertips.

Crocheting became her sanctuary. She carefully weaves yarn by yarn with immense love until they form deeply meaningful creations. It started with just simple bags until her meeting with Mrs. Anita at Deus Caritas Est (DCE) opened an entirely new chapter. There, Apolla learned how to make angel dolls. There is a funny story from when she first tried making a Saint Michael doll. The fringes on the skirt of the angel were only placed on the left and right sides. However, she kept learning from that experience, and today her creations are incredibly delicate and captivating.

Through DCE, Apolla found more than just a skill, she found a second family. She finds joy in helping other friends with disabilities, just like the time she wholeheartedly pushed the wheelchair of her best friend in Bali. In her life, love and independence grow side by side.

Apolla is now married to a deaf man, and together they are blessed with a daughter who is currently majoring in informatics engineering. Her hope is simple yet deeply sincere, she wants her daughter to graduate and live an independent life.

For Apolla, DCE is a home that provides the space to grow, create, and dream. Through sign language, she conveys her deep gratitude for being able to work, learn, and be accepted exactly as she is. She also hopes that other friends with disabilities can find their own path to independence just like she did.
